Weekend Highlight: Dance on the Charles

Miss those open-air raves from your younger days or were too old when they first came out of nowhere? Have no worries because some enterprising people, namely underground electronic music purveyors Soul Clap and Marz Entertainment, have a solution for you: Dancing on the Charles 2008.
First started last year, Dancing on the Charles is a recurring warm-weather, outdoor, nighttime event established specifically for people who like their loud music mixed live and in the fresh air. Oh, and there’s barbecued food and booze from cash-only bars to boot.
Lots of good stuff is on the way this summer now that the original founders have partnered with hot and hip beverage company Red Bull. In addition to the seven Saturday dates already established — May 31, June 14, June 28, July 12, July 26, August 23, and September 20 — DOTC is sponsoring creative hookups with artists to produce special flyers and promotional clothing for each event.
People who purchase tickets in advance of their desired event will pay a flat fee of ten bucks. Arrive without such a ticket after 9pm, and you’ll have to shell out more. And don’t forget all events last from 7pm to 1am and have a minimum required age of 21.
The Kickoff Bonanza for this year takes place Saturday at American Legion Marsh Post #442 (1 Gerrys Landing Road, Outside of Harvard Square, Cambridge). Check out the DOTC website for more details.
