Randy believes the Dallas Cowboys are the best NFL team because they’re America’s Team, while Mitch says almost the same about the Super Bowl-winning Giants, with the added observation that New York’s team colors are even red, white, and blue. As the responses to this giveaway demonstrate, it looks like America has lots of teams, as well as lots of diehard fans to support them.

Still, the most recent Super Bowl was one for the record books, and it will definitely be remembered forever as a formidable display of why so many find football *the* sport to follow.

In the next few days, I’m giving readers the opportunity to win one of two Official Super Bowl XLII Game Programs (Retail Value $15, if you can find one now, that is) to commemorate one of the greatest NFL championship games ever. The contest is offered in conjunction with the quarterly Bloggy Giveaways Carnival taking place this week all around the Web.

The magazine-sized game program contains 288 color pages of pure NFL goodness, ranging from informative articles to full-page photo rosters for each competing team. If you’re into football or know someone who is, the program is worth owning and keeping around far into the future. It’s truly a collector’s item.

If you haven’t heard yet, the Pats did not succeed in attaining a history-making perfect record, instead falling 17–14 to their tenacious opponents during the final part of the game.

I’ve been busy taking screenshots of news websites’ front pages to commemorate this unforgettable day in NFL history, and I share them all after the jump. Television coverage of the historic NFL championship game begins at 2pm EST sharp on Fox, starting with the Pregame Show at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The afternoon festivities will be hosted by American Idol talking head Ryan Seacrest and will drag on until 6pm, when Super Bowl XLI gets officially underway. Then we’ll finally have the chance to see the loss-less New England Patriots battle the New York Giants in an attempt to achieve a record-making perfect season. This is going to be one Super Bowl to remember and talk about for ages.

If you want to get an ever earlier start on the game than the pregame show, click over to BOSTON.TV. The local-centric website will be featuring loads of videos throughout the day to help put Patriots fans in the proper mood for tonight’s matchup. Sunday afternoon’s 21–12 defeat over the San Diego Chargers earned the New England Patriots a spot in the Super Bowl XLII championship. On February 3, the team will go head-to-head against the New York Giants in Glendale, Arizona, once again reminding me that I’ve spent all but a few years of my life living in two of the United States’ most accomplished states pro sports-wise.

The AFC Champions are journeying to the big game, their fourth Super Bowl in seven years, after an unprecedented 18–0 season. Their opponents, on the other hand, had to fight a bit harder for one of the top spots next month. The Giants defeated the Green Bay Packers 23–20 in overtime on Sunday, and they haven’t been to the Super Bowl since 2001’s XXXV, when the wild card Baltimore Ravens defeated them 34–7. Ouch.

Even so, there’s no doubt that around these parts, the main concern is whether the Patriots will continue their historic winning streak by managing a Super Bowl triumph and thus a perfect record for the year. Stay tuned—there’s less than two weeks left before we’ll all know.
