John Lennon Art Show at Hotel Indigo

Boston-area Beatles fans, especially those who admire guitarist and singer John Lennon, have something to get excited about if they’re able to make it to Newton’s recently opened Hotel Indigo (399 Grove Street, Newton, 617-969-5300, 888-ART-1969) this weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, June 28–29, from 11am to 6pm, Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono will present the two-day art exhibit Power to the People, a name shared by Lennon’s fourth single as a solo artist, released in 1971.

Walk for Hunger Celebrates 40 Years Sunday

This Sunday is the first Sunday in May, which means it’s time for a 40-year-old Massachusetts tradition — Project Bread’s annual Walk for Hunger.
Started in 1969 by a compassionate Catholic priest named Patrick Hughes, the Walk for Hunger is a 20-mile pledge walk, the oldest one in the country, through Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, Newton, and Watertown. The purpose of the trek is to raise money to fight hunger among Bay State residents.

Last night/this morning, Newton native and television sitcom fan fave John Krasinski appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
The popular actor has a lot going on these days besides his hit NBC series The Office, most notably entertainment-wise the upcoming feature film Leatherheads. It premieres in theaters nationwide next Friday, April 4.

Eating Disorder Awareness Week Is Here

A very important issue is about to take center stage in Boston, courtesy of Newton’s non-profit Multiservice Eating Disorders Association (MEDA), which is hosting Eating Disorder Awareness Week. The letters in the acronym MEDA alternatively stand for Mentor, Empower, Develop, and Assist. Accordingly, the group is committed to educating the public to raise awareness of the issues and symptoms that define eating disorders in order to help prevent them from spreading.
