Boston to New York and Back Again for Cheap

Boston to New York and Back Again for Cheap

I know — some people avoid traveling long distances by bus as if the vehicles were carriers of the bubonic plague. Yet, there’s really no reason to fear or loathe the mode of transportation, especially now that it’s gotten cheaper than ever.
Just about everyone who travels in the East has probably heard about the ridiculously low $1 fares some companies, such as Bolt Bus and Mega Bus here in Boston, charge for a one-way trip to a major destination, most often New York City. Compared to what that old standby Greyhound charges — currently $30–$57 one way — …read more

Global Food Fixation

Who doesn’t like to eat? Okay, I know there are some people who don’t enjoy it, but for many, the entire ritual of consuming food is a fun activity, not to mention a necessity.

New Kids on the Block Make the Old Kids on ‘Today’ Swoon

New Kids on the Block Make the Old Kids on ‘Today’ Swoon

It looks like it was raining fairly hard this morning in New York, but that didn’t stop women around my age from showing up to drool and reminisce over the reunited New Kids on the Block when they appeared at Rockefeller Plaza. Since I was never into boy bands, I can’t say I share their enthusiasm. Still, who can grumble about so many having such a good time because of one music group? I’m happy for ‘em!
As promised, check out high-quality videos of the New Kids’ performance on NBC’s Today earlier today. Danny Wood, Donnie Wahlberg, …read more

Upset! New York Giants Take Super Bowl XLII

Wow!!! That was some intense football coverage for the last ten minutes or so of tonight’s Super Bowl XLII match-up between the stunning New England Patriots and the dogged New York Giants.
If you haven’t heard yet, the Pats did not succeed in attaining a history-making perfect record, instead falling 17–14 to their tenacious opponents during the final part of the game.
I’ve been busy taking screenshots of news websites’ front pages to commemorate this unforgettable day in NFL history, and I share them all after the jump. Just click on the thumbnails to see which publication said what following …read more

Revisiting No Pants 2k8 Boston

Revisiting No Pants 2k8 Boston

One week ago yesterday, on Saturday, January 12th, intrepid commuters in the Boston area took to the T without their pants for the city’s first ever No Pants! Subway Ride.
The Travel and Culture Channel here at b5media did an excellent job providing multistate coverage of the Improv Everywhere event, which broke out of its New York confines in 2008 for the first time in its nearly decade-long history.
As a result of the ambitious international reach, pantsless riders stormed the public subway systems in no less than ten different locations, including New York (of course), Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Portland (Oregon), Washington …read more

Pants-Free and Happy on the T

Pants-Free and Happy on the T

Have you heard? This Saturday, January 12, Boston will host its very first No Pants! Subway Ride. Officially called No Pants 2K8 this year, the depantsing event is an extension of an annual organized group experience started in New York in 2002.
Big Apple-based comedian Charlie Todd established Improv Everywhere in 2001 to spread a little cheer in humans’ dreary everyday existence by staging “scenes of chaos and joy in public places.”
One result of Todd’s ambitious (and somewhat illegal-sounding) endeavor was the first annual No Pants! Subway Ride held in the bowels of the New York City transit system …read more
