Franklin Park Zoo Cranes Refuse to Court
It seems the Franklin Park Zoo has a bit of a dilemma on its hands these days: two African Wattled cranes named Kotze and Pepe, members of an increasingly endangered species, are refusing to mate after they were introduced and housed together for that very purpose.
Wattled cranes only have an estimated 8,000 members left worldwide, and the zoo is attempting to help reverse the troubling trend and preserve the population by producing a hatchling in captivity. Kotze and Pepe could care less, however, leading to a very interesting and funny article at the Boston Globe about the predicament.

Weekend Highlight: Dragons Storm the Charles!
This weekend, Boston will offer one of my absolute favorite local warm-weather events.
Dragons will be taking over the Charles on Sunday, June 8, when the annual Boston Dragon Boat Festival kicks off bright and early at 9am. The free family-friendly event will last all the way until 5pm, providing revelers with arts, crafts, and always essential food, in addition to the traditional exhilarating racing that makes the day such a memorable good time.

Tourist Attractions: Museum of Science
You want fascinating? Boston’s got it — in the form of the ever popular Museum of Science, a Boston landmark and member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums that is home to the Charles Hayden Planetarium, the Mugar Omni IMAX Theater, and dozens of animals. That’s right — I dare to bring you the same Weekend Highlight this week as I did last week, and for good reason. Thanks to generally lousy weather and unforeseen exploding manholes, May 4th’s scheduled MayFair celebration was canceled.

Weekend Highlight: MayFair 2008
This Sunday, May 4, gather the family, dress warm and casual, and head over to Harvard Square in Cambridge for its 25th annual MayFair festival, which coincides with the last day of Harvard University’s yearly, four-day Arts First celebration.
From 12pm-6pm, attendees will enjoy a diverse selection of activities, entertainment, shopping opportunities, and foodstuff, all for the admission price of $0.
