Harry Potter’s Going to Harvard
Or at least British author J.K. Rowling, the woman who created him and his wizardly world, is.
Cambridge-based Harvard University announced Thursday that the next individual to deliver its annual commencement address will be the renowned writer. She, of course, penned the seven-volume young-adult Harry Potter fantasy series that eventually evolved into a behemoth film franchise.
More important to quite a few aspiring children’s authors living the classic starving-artist lifestyle, Rowling began her brilliant literature career while a single mother with very limited means. I guess I don’t have to say outright that I really respect her contributions to children’s literature and their effect on helping young people discover the value of reading, but I just did anyway.
Rowling will travel to the United States to deliver her afternoon address during Harvard’s 357th Commencement exercises on June 5. Given her obvious talent and magical way with words, the speech should be an affair worth remembering.
