Boston in Pretty Pictures: Franklin Park Zoo

I recently wrote about Franklin Park Zoo’s upcoming Earth Day celebration. The zoo has a number of interesting events and activities scheduled for April 20 that are certain to make attendees feel even more in tune with our planet than they normally do.

Boston in Pretty Pictures: Boston Photo Mob

It really does pay to set aside a little time every now and then to explore this thing called the World Wide Web.

While leisurely “flipping” through the webpages on the deservedly popular photo-sharing website flickr, I came across a group dedicated to visually documenting the very city I blog about regularly.

The band of talented photographers is called the Boston Photo Mob (love that!), and they have their own subsection on flickr containing thousands and thousands of Boston-centric snaps.

Photo lovers of all kinds could truly lose themselves perusing the diverse pictures in the Mob’s photo pool, something I encourage those readers who have a thing for striking imagery to do. The bonus is discovering all kinds of memorable details about the city of Boston at the same time.

Most of the photographs belonging to the group have copyright restrictions that prevent sharing on other websites. But, one of the photographers, Jack Tammaro, uses Creative Commons Licenses that allow me to give readers a taste of the Boston Photo Mob’s many visual flavors. So, enjoy a few choice photos from BPM’s Tammaro after the jump.

Boston Buried Under a Torrent of Snow

Snow days are here!

Thursday morning, Boston residents started receiving their holiday gift of a White Christmas almost two full weeks early. According to local newspaper the Boston Herald, the “wall of snow” immersed the state of Massachusetts in enough fluffy wetness to lead government officials to send all the kiddies home from school and their adult counterparts home from work, as well.

Sure, that sounds like a good thing sitting inside one’s warm, comfortable abode. But, the fallout on the roads most likely resulted in hundreds of irate drivers wishing they were back in their cubicles at the office instead of stalled in the midst of the nerve-racking commute from hell. And, so bad weather goes in the Bay State, a place where even fairly light snow or heavy rain causes networks to run continuous alert messages along the bottom of television screens a-l-l d-a-y l-o-n-g.

As a result of the unrelenting precipitation (more snow is expected today), anybody planning to visit the Boston area in the near future should come prepared with appropriate bad-weather attire and gear, plus a healthy dose of patience to survive the inevitable delays that typically accompanies this type of climate.
