Boston News Bytes: Upbeat Senator Ted Kennedy Doing Great After Surgery

Senator Ted Kennedy
So far, so very, very good.

Just weeks after an unexpected seizure led to the diagnosis of a malignant brain tumor, Senator Ted Kennedy underwent dangerous brain surgery at Duke University this morning. The operation was conducted by noted specialist and researcher Dr. Allan Friedman, who remarked after the three-hour procedure, “I am pleased to report that Senator Kennedy’s surgery was successful and accomplished our goals.”

The next steps for the revered 76-year-old Democrat include remaining at Duke for a week and then returning to Massachusetts General Hospital for radiation and chemotherapy treatments. At this stage, the subsequent outlook seems excellent, as well.

Although the operation’s immediate aftermath is welcome news for many around the world, residents of Massachusetts are particularly buoyed by today’s positive outcome because the senator is a longtime local icon.

CNN aired an informative segment on the situation in Durham, North Carolina, before the results of the surgery were announced to the general public. Take a look at the clip after the jump.

Appreciate your informative story on Sen. Kennedy. Unfortunately, your story, like all of the others I’ve read, fails to give either a hospital or home mailing address so people can send get-well wishes to the Senator through the US postal service. I have a note here, all written, and can’t find a way to send it. Any clues, perhaps? And no, I would not like to use email. Thanks.

I don’t know about other posts, but mine has the name of the hospital right there in boldface: Massachusetts General Hospital.

The website is easily found through a web search, and I’m sure the address is prominently listed on the official website.
