New England Patriots Pursue Historic Victory

I’m not even remotely a football fan, but I admit I am still pretty psyched for the New England Patriots. When the team plays the New York Giants this Saturday night the members will be going for an impressive 16–0 record to remain undefeated in the current regular season.

The only other team to achieve a comparable goal was the Miami Dolphins in 1972. Notably, the players then went on to snag Super Bowl VII, giving them an overall perfect record of 17–0 for fourteen regular season games, two playoff games, and the championship matchup against the Washington Redskins. However, this monumental accomplishment occurred before the regular NFL season was extended to sixteen games in 1978.

Saturday’s game at New Jersey’s Giants Stadium is such a draw, more than one network will air the action, A similar national simulcast hasn’t occurred since the first Super Bowl in 1967. As a result, eager fans can catch the hopefully historic event at 8pm EST on cable’s NFL Network, as well as the recently added broadcast networks CBS and NBC. Tune your TV an hour earlier to take in the pregame festivities, as well. Unbelievable as it seems, I might even do the same myself, yet another incident to add to the history books.
